What is ‘The Pitch’ Competition?

‘The Pitch’ is the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s National Marketing Competition for students. It is designed to recognise and reward the marketing talent of the future. To get to the final the students had to prepare a 2,500 word Marketing plan in 15 hours and then they were required to present their marketing plan through a ten minute PowerPoint in front of six judges on the 3rd March 2016 from organisations such as IBM, Mintel, LinkedIn, Aviva, SEGRO and Rustlers. UCLan Group Matrix team having reached the finals have a permanent place in the CIM Pitch Hall of Fame, will feature in a national CIM supplement magazine article and have framed certificates of achievements. UCLan Group Matrix were the final team to pitch. They made sure they didn’t waste any time and practiced throughout the day to make it ‘pitch perfect.’

Here the students tell us how they felt the experience was. “This was a challenging experience, an opportunity to network with new people, presenting in front of CEOs which gives a real-life presentation experience. It’s completely different presenting in front of CEOs than how you present in front of lecturers.” They also explained how ‘The Pitch’ increased their confidence in developing their interpersonal, presentation and time management skills.
