An exclusive visit to Bloomberg’s Hong Kong office made a great stir among LaunchPad students and led them to further employability enhancing opportunities and even job interviews. The visit, organised with the help of Peter Ashfield who is one of LaunchPad programme leads, gave an overview of how the news company is operating and recruiting graduates.
Following the roundtable discussions between LaunchPadders and Bloomberg’s recruitment officer, the students interested in working at Bloomberg were offered to come along the following day and attend the group interviews.
Five students grabbed the opportunity and put their newly gained employability and interviewing tips into practice for a chance to be hired as junior analysts at the world’s fastest growing news organisation.
LaunchPad student Charles Partington, who joined the travelling squad straight from his placement year at IBM, said: “The Bloomberg visit was a real eye-opener providing us with insights into the application of analytics and how it’s been used to create a sustainable business model.
“Now I am more aware of different applications of how analytics are used and that’s the view I will be taking back to IBM where I work with a number of companies which do a lot of analytics.”
Students also toured around the office with one of Bloomberg’s HR officers who explained the main duties and tasks of each department. Launchpadders also got a glimpse of a studio where anchors deliver breaking news and analysis.
After the visit group of three LaunchPadders have organised themselves a meeting with Angie Lau, a multi-award winning journalist who anchors Bloomberg Asia’s flagship program. Read more about their meeting and how they managed to arrange it in the next blog post.
